YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK
           COLOR IMAGES
Best known for it's incomparable Yosemite Valley, Yosemite N.P., also has a vast backcountry. I've included
photos of areas outside but adjacent to the park, along it's eastern and southern boundaries. The images
generally follow a north to south progression. Please visit my
Yosemite N.P. Black & White page as well. To
purchase images and/or to gain more information on them, simply click on the

have an account with
PayPal and I never see your credit card information.

YOSEMITE'S BACKCOUNTRY
DEC. 31, 1996; THE GREAT YOSEMITE FLOOD
Heavy early snowfall followed by warm, El
Nino rains created massive runoff that led to
the largest recorded flood on the Merced
River. On the morning of Jan. 1, 1997, we
awoke to the sound of thunder caused by
huge talus boulders in the Merced River
being slowly rolled along by the
incomprehensible power of the flooding
river. Taken in heavy rain the image below
shows Bridalveil Falls surging with
spring-like force. Evacuations followed as did
the destruction of numerous buildings,
campgrounds and roads.
