THE GHOST TOWN OF BODIE, CALIFORNIA
The Ghost Town of Bodie, California is a remarkably well preserved Historical Park. Located in a desolate, high desert environment, it's hard to imagine
that up to 10,000 people once lived here at the turn of the century. Even
Mark Twain visited and wrote about this gold mining town. In the mid 1890's, Bodie
became one of the first town's to have electricity brought in by long distance lines. Numerous fires burned parts of Bodie until a devastating 1932 fire led to
the town's final demise. Most of these photos were taken in
1976, before the access road was paved. Many of the images were taken through dirty glass
windows, since little access is allowed into the buildings.
