DEVILS TOWER
 LAKOTA BEAR LODGE
American Indians call Devils Tower,
Bear Lodge, House or Tipi.
The great
vertical sratches are a result of a gigantic
bear attempting to climb The Tower as it
sprung from the earth. The scale of this
place is difficult to communicate in
photographs. In the image at left, a pair of
Vultures can be seen as tiny dark spots
left of center. Vultures have a wing span
of 6 ft. In the color image below are
ceremonial
Prayer Bundles left by
Indians, an ancient tradition of worship
continued. They requested a ban on
climbing during the month of June, a
particularly significant time of worship
which revolves around the
summer
solstice.
Continuing our history of
disrespect the
NPS has only responded
with a strictly voluntary policy.
Forget the
little green aliens of Close
Encounters. We need to better
understand and respect the
significance that American Indians
are a genetically distinct and seperate
race from all other humans. They
unwillingly turned this continent over
to us in a pristine state after having
worshiped North America as home
for at least ten thousand years. We
treat this land as we  treat each other.
